Putney Pubs withdraw applications due to objections
The controversial new legislation relating to pub licensing is reaching the next stage as the deadline for objections approaches.
Already some premises have withdrawn or amended their applications following objections. The Boathouse pub's plans for extended drinking was scrapped by the brewer Young's due to the level of opposition.
Leader of Wandsworth Council, Edward Lister said, "We hope they have listened to local residents. There is a lot of concern already about noise from people drinking outside in the piazza. The extra hours were the final straw. It shows that if residents speak out against unwelcome proposals their voice can be heard."
Over 50 objections were made to the application mainly from people who lived in nearby flats.
In addition the Whistle and Flute has been forced to accept closure at midnight from Monday to Saturday and 11pm on Sunday instead of the 2am every night that it wanted. The Railway will also close at midnight on Monday to Thursday and 1am Friday to Saturday. Originally they had wanted 1am during the week and 2am at weekends.
See the links above for current applications and information for objectors. The final date for objections is 4th September with some applications having even earlier deadlines. Wandsworth Council has a stated policy of rejecting any application it can if there is a single objection.
