Man Charged With Manslaughter For Wandsworth Bridge Speedboat Death

Charlotte Brown was on a first date when she died

A man has been charged with manslaughter by gross negligence following the death of Charlotte Brown in the River Thames in 2015.

Jack Shepherd, aged 30, from Abergavenny, Wales was charged this Tuesday (19 September) and will appear at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on 18 October.

At around 11.45pm on Tuesday 8 December, 2015, police responded to reports of shouting coming from the River Thames at Plantation Wharf, just east of Wandsworth Bridge.

24-year-old Charlotte, from Finchley, died when the boat she was in with her date capsized near Wandsworth Bridge. Charli, as she liked to be known, was taken from the water and taken to hospital. She died later that night. The boat was recovered from Putney Embankment.

Mr Shepherd was recovered from the water along with Charli and was discharged from hospital after the incident. It is understood that they were on a first date at the time of the incident.

At the time of the accident police treated Charlotte's death as non-suspicious but in March this year it was revealed that the Met was looking into the possibility of manslaughter, with detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command investigating.
