'Row Hard' for Putney brain injury charity
A Putney-based charity, The Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability (RHN), is recruiting City workers to take part in an indoor rowing challenge atop City Hall on Thursday 11 June. Already in its fifth year, Row Hard is a firm favourite in the City calendar and will pit 36 different teams from an array of banks, law firms and other companies against each other over a 2km relay race fit to test even the fittest of employees.
With up to 144 participants enjoying panoramic views over London while competing head-to-head in a race requiring fitness, determination and no small amount of team work, the event will raise much-needed funds for the London-based brain injury charity.
Last year’s event was hosted by the sports broadcaster extraordinaire Clare Balding, who motivated teams to push to their limits, and later presented the winning team with the coveted Row Hard winner’s oar (pictured below). The fastest time was an astounding 5m 31s, which this year’s competitors are being challenged to beat.
Senior Community & Events Executive, RHN, Anna Wall-Budden who is responsible for organising the event said,
“Each year we’ve hosted Row Hard, it’s been bigger than the last and we’re certain that this year will be no different! We encourage everyone to get a group of colleagues, friends or even relatives together and register a team for this fantastic fundraising event. When else do you get a chance to go to the top floor of City Hall for a good cause?”
The RHN is hoping to raise £45,000 to help fund their Biomedical Engineering services, which aims to restore independence and quality of life to adults affected by neurological disability. The RHN’s on-site Biomedical Engineering Team customise and adapt wheelchairs in order to help patients fulfil their individual needs and maximise their potential.
Places are still available for companies and individuals to participate in the challenge and for those wanting to get in on the action without competing, there are spectator tickets available too.
This year’s event is generously sponsored by Stanhope PLC, the award-winning developers, enabling all funds raised to directly benefit the RHN.
