Southfields House Too Small For Flats

Council enforces return to a single dwelling

The two-storey property in Merton Road was converted into flats without planning consent must be returned to single family use.

The floor area of the property is below 120 square metres which is the minimum size for a conversion to be considered.

Planning applications chairman Leslie McDonnell said:
“The property is below the size where it can sensibly be converted in flats. It means the units created from the sub-division are simply too cramped.

“We have a reasonability to ensure the borough's housing does not deteriorate through ill-conceived conversions."

The planning applications committee on July 14th authorised enforcement action.
