179 bedrooms, offices and commercial spaces planned for the brownfield site
Proposed hotel for the corner of Putney High Street & Putney Bridge Road
Plans have just been submitted (click to see plans) by Governside Ltd for one of Putney's gateway sites on the corner of Putney Bridge Road and the High Street – currently occupied by Preto and Mascalzone - tucked in the gap left by the proposed Leveller's Court . The plans are for 'a new building comprising ground plus nine storeys and one basement level, including C1 hotel use, B1(a)
office use, and flexible A1/A2/A3 retail use at ground and basement levels.'
A spokesperson for Governside Ltd said: “We have submitted a planning application to redevelop the existing site at 31 – 43 Putney High Street and deliver a new hotel, office and commercial space, including shops, cafes and restaurants, along with new public open space.
“The current site includes a restaurant at ground floor level, with commercial space above. The commercial space no longer meets modern operator requirements and provides limited value to the local area. The site is classified as brownfield land and has been allocated for redevelopment by Wandsworth Council.
“We have held conversations with a number of international hotel operators and have received a high level of interest in the site. The proposals have been designed to ensure the new development will reflect the vibrant character of Putney town centre.
“The proposed development will benefit the local economy by supporting over 120 jobs. We will be working with the Council and other local stakeholders to agree an employment strategy to make sure local people directly benefit from the new jobs.
You can find out more at a Public Exhibition giving residents the opportunity to view the proposals and provide feedback to the project team. The event will be held Friday 10 November, 2pm – 8pm Cromwell Room, St Mary’s Church, Putney Bridge Approach, SW15 2JQ. (Please note the exhibition has been extended to 8pm)
We are keen to see proposals which bring vibrancy to the town centre and improve facilities for local people. What do you want to see here to enhance amenity for our local community? Let us know.
For a start, an integrated approach is essential with the two developers working together so that this corner site integrates with the neighbouring site - Levellers Court on Putney Bridge Road (Brewers to Preto). The Council’s Local Plan seeks a new public square here and specifies that new buildings be sensitively designed to make a positive contribution. Anything over 6 storeys is considered tall".
