Accommodation proposed to provide additional income to save the pub
Zac Monro Architects (ZMA) have been appointed by the landlady Ms Newman to look into proposals for the refurbishment and extension of the existing public house situated to the southern end of the Waterman Street cul-de-sac.
The landlady’s brief was to build an extension that would form a new residential block, allowing an alternative source of income for the site and thus preventing the closure of the public house.
Proposals for the refurbishment of The Bricklayer’s Arms, Putney:
SAVE THE PUB!
WHY:
The public house in its current state has become financially unsustainable, falling into disrepair with the ever looming possibility of closure.
If there are any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
BENEFITS :
The proposed retention of the public house with additional residential accommodation is appropriate to the overall viability of the scheme. Ensuring economic stability so the pub can still function as an important community asset, whilst enhancing the aesthetics/massing of the immediate context.
Landlady Becky Newman told PutneySw15.com: "My hope is that I can stress how deeply devoted I am to the Putney community. I am not some seedy developer trying to make a quick buck and flee the area. Nobody loves The Bricklayer's Arms more than I do and I just want to ensure its survival for another 200 years. Its finances really need to be underpinned with something more concrete though. It's very tough being an independent pub!"
