Justin Rose, who has a riverside apartment in Putney made Olympic history yesterday (11th August) when he got the first 'hole in one' in an Olympic match. Golf joined the Olympic Games as a sport this year for the first time in 112 years.

At the par-three fourth of the Olympic Golf Course in Barra da Tijuca, Rose took a seven iron at the tee and found the pin. He congratulated his caddie for his success:
"It was one of those nice moments, when you are the first to do something, no-one can take it away from you. I give my caddie credit for that one. I was going to hit an eight iron but he told me seven and I went with it for a change and it worked out."

Rose went on to hand in his card with a score of 67 while Australia's Marcus Fraser opened up a three-shot lead on eight under after an opening 63.
