Wandsworth Council has confirmed that a resident ballot will take place this September as part of the next phase of the Alton Estate Renewal Plan in Roehampton. The ballot, scheduled to run from 22 September to 16 October, will give eligible residents the opportunity to vote on revised proposals for the future of their homes and neighbourhood.

The updated masterplan, approved by the council’s cabinet in June, outlines a series of changes aimed at addressing long-standing challenges on the estate. Key elements include an increase in ‘genuinely’ affordable housing, improved community facilities, and a modern replacement shopping parade. A new library and youth spaces are also part of the proposed enhancements.

Council Leader Simon Hogg said the revised plan reflects feedback gathered through ongoing engagement with residents and local organisations. “We’ve listened to what people have said and we’re confident that this next phase of the Alton Renewal Plan shows we’re committed to serving the real needs of residents,” he stated.

The council has described the ballot as a decisive moment in the renewal process, encouraging residents to review the proposals and participate in shaping the future of the estate. A formal ‘Landlord Offer’ document detailing the plans will be distributed to eligible voters in early September.

Since the renewal plan was launched in July 2024, the council has implemented several immediate improvements, including the opening of a Family Hub, a community safety and police touchdown space, new litter bins, resurfaced roads, and enhanced bus services. Plans are also underway to refurbish play areas and expand community facilities.

Residents seeking more information can visit the Alton section of the council’s website or attend weekly information stalls held every Friday afternoon outside The Base on Danebury Avenue. Additional drop-in sessions are planned throughout August and autumn.

A community event, ‘Rockin’ in the Rookery’, will take place on Saturday 16 August on Bull Green from 2pm to 5pm, offering music, games, and information about the ballot process.
