It May Be Chicken Tonight But Not at 5 In The Morning

Council says no to early morning orders at Putney fast food restaurant

The owner of a Putney fast food takeaway has had his application to stay open until 5am rejected by Wandsworth councillors.

At the meeting on 25th June of the licensing sub-committee turned down proposals that would have allowed the ‘What a Chicken’ takeaway on Putney Hill to remain open until 5am three mornings a week.

The owner had sought permission to stay open to this dawn hour on Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Councillors were told that the police and people living nearby had expressed concerns about increased levels of crime and disorder if the application was approved, as well as major worries about noise nuisance.

Committee chairman Cllr Martin D Johnson said: “The opening hours requested here were simply not acceptable. There are many people living nearby who would have faced totally unreasonable levels of disturbance throughout the night. Some immediate neighbours might not have had a wink’s sleep for three nights of the week and we were not prepared to sanction this.
