Once again there will be no trains nor tubes through SW15
Once again on the 15th & 16th October there will be no tube trains running between Parsons Green and Wimbledon, replacement buses will be in operation.
At the same time SWT are suspending trains between Clapham Junction and Kew Bridge.
Cllr Jim Maddan told PutneySW15.com:
"
The fault seems to lie with Network Rail who are managed by the Department of Transport who have unilaterally decided to do some platform lengthening at Barnes in connection with longer trains which are still on the drawing board, so why it needs to be done now is beyond me.
There are four platforms and four tracks for the trains at Barnes and if they need to shut one at a time, so be it, but not the whole station."
Last week commuters suffered severe delays when the engineering works on the district line
over ran in to Monday. On Monday David Waboso, London Underground's Director of Capital Programmes, issued out the following statement:
"What happened on the District line this weekend was completely unacceptable, and we will be taking robust action with Balfour Beatty to ensure this does not happen again. There can be no excuses - Balfour Beatty knew the job that needed to be done and more than enough time was scheduled to complete the work, but only our intervention has prevented these works over-running even later. It is simply not good enough and we will be demanding answers."
One can only assume (& keep all things crossed) that Balfour Beatty will not fail to keep to their works deadline this weekend!
