Conservators Meet The Charity Commission

Trustees receive recommendations on how to proceed

The Wimbledon and Putney Commons Conservators and their Chief Executive met with representatives from the Charity Commission on 9th October to discuss serious issues arising from the sale of access rights at Putney Hospital in February 2012.

The Trustees have now received recommendations from the Charity Commission on how they should proceed. Shirley Gillbe, Interim Chairman, commented, “The Trustees will meet on 11th November to discuss the recommendations made by the Charity Commission, and how to implement them”.

At this stage there is no indication as to the details of the recommendation made by the Commission.

The Charity Commission was called in after a dispute between board members over an alleged undervaluation of access rights on Putney Common.

As a result of the dispute and what Simon Lee, the Chief Executive of Wimbledon and Putney Commons described as 'an irretrievable loss of trust between the members, and between some members and the executive' it was decided that the Board could no longer function effectively and the Charity Commission was formally invited to step in.
