MP Responds After Primary School Application Declared Invalid

Whilst controversy surrounds plans for former Putney Hospital site

Justine Greening MP told PutneySW15.com:
“It is very concerning that there have been problems with the planning application for this important development on the former Putney Hospital site and I can understand residents’ frustration at the present situation.

Wandsworth Council has confirmed that the planning application for a new primary school will be resubmitted and the comments of those residents who took part in the original consultation will be carried forward so that they are considered in the context of the new application.

We do have a serious shortage of primary school places so a new primary school will help make sure that local parents have the places they want for their children. I will continue to work with local councillors to address the concerns that residents have raised during the initial application process.”

Residents have been voicing concerns over the past months as to the size and location of the proposed primary school - questioning the impact on traffic levels, saftey and the swap of land to allow access to the site. However mid May it was noted that the application was not valid which the council have since confirmed.

The council has confirmed to PutneySW15.com that the children’s services department is resubmitting its planning application for a new 420 pupil primary school and a 50 place nursery for children living in the west of the borough.

If the plans are approved, the original timetable for the opening of the school and nursery will not change and children would begin to be admitted in September 2015.

They assured that all those residents who have previously taken part in the consultation will have their comments carried forward so that they are fully considered in relation to the new application.
