A letter from local resident Bill Wells
The Prime Minister is being petitioned to intervene to secure the Freedom Pass by protecting the previously agreed level of concessionary travel funding for London, for 2010-11. The proposals currently being consulted on by the Department for Transport would cut £29 million of agreed funding for the boroughs. This follows the DfT's re-opening of a 3-year funding deal in its third year .

London's Borough Leaders are committed to the Freedom Pass, a concessionary travel scheme providing free travel 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on bus, tube, and most rail routes for London's over 60 or disabled residents. Funded mostly from council tax, the Freedom Pass also gets government funding, reflecting London's contribution to the national concessionary bus travel scheme. A petition to save the London Freedom pass has been set up following the government's decision to reduce by 50% the grant to London to help pay for the Freedom Pass. The deadline to sign up by is 29 January 2010
