Brewery’s plans had attracted 115 objections.
Councillors have asked Young’s to think again over plans to remove etched windows from the Duke’s Head pub on Putney Embankment.
The planning applications committee on June 22 was considering proposed alterations to the listed building including refurbishment of the basement and upper floors.
Planning applications chairman Leslie McDonnell said:
“While the building is clearly in need of attention there is real concern locally that if the work is not done sensitively it will harm its unique character.
“The brewery had originally wanted to open up the separate bar areas but had since reduced the scale of their proposals so that the pub’s essential features would remain. T he committee was still concerned that the brewery wanted to replace the etched glass windows on the Lower Richmond frontage with clear glass and remove the etched screen between the public and saloon bar.
“Councillors decided to put the application back to Young’s so they could look again at ways of retaining these features.”
