Campaigning against domestic abuse and violence against women and girls
White Ribbon Day is a global event to combat violence against women and girls
Three events are taking place in Roehampton around White Ribbon Day which this year takes place on Thursday 25 November.
The day is to support the global movement aiming to combat male violence against women and girls.
The first event is a torch-lit parade on White Ribbon Day itself at 6pm at the Open Air Gallery on Danebury Avenue.
The march is organised by the Roehampton Women's Network (RWN) and is supported by Wandsworth Borough Council and by the Met Police Borough Command unit, with local organisations such as Regenerate UK, Little Village, the Roehampton Community Box, Putney Rotary, The Putney Society, Roehampton University and others also taking part.
The parade will start with some short speeches from Fleur Anderson MP, Deputy Mayor Lucy Mowatt and DCI Amanda Mawhinney at 6pm at the Open Air Gallery on Danebury Avenue, and process down Danebury Avenue to Portswood Place, returning via Harbridge Avenue within about an hour.
All are welcome to join, bring a torch, a candle or a mobile phone. Free personal alarms will be provided to the first 30 women joining the parade.
The second event is a discussion and education event, which is taking place at Eastwood Children's Centre at 166 Roehampton Lane, from 1-3pm on Saturday 4 December. Again, this event is supported and organised by the RWN and the Council, with Citizens Advice Wandsworth, and it will include input and advice from Talk Wandsworth and Hestia. Open to all - tickets via Eventbrite.
The third White Ribbon event is an exhibition of white ribbon themed artworks across three public houses in Roehampton - The Green Man, The Angel and The King's Head.
The art will be on display until mid-December, and was put on by Estate Art, a Roehampton based voluntary group. The artworks were produced by local residents, some of whom are survivors.
