A special event to mark International Women's Day has been organised by the local United Nations Association.
There is to be a discussion entitled, "Micro-finance and Its Contribution to Women and Development" on 6 March at 7.30pm at the Community Church Hall, Werter Road (opposite Sainsbury's) Putney SW15 2LL.
The speakers are Rt Hon Andrew Mitchell MP - (Secretary of State for Department of International Development 2010-2012),
Nancy Thomas - Care International and
Chair Catherine Pluygers - UNA Wandsworth .
The debate will be followed by Question and Answer Session.
UNA Wandsworth has been in existence for more than 60 years. It was started when World War II was fresh in people's minds and the need for a new world order in the form of the United Nations was seen as imperative. Today they see their function as continying to inform people about the UN, to support its work, to challenge that work when necessary and to lobby the UK Government.
The local UNA holds three public meetings a year. The Committee chooses topical subjects of concern to the UN and relating to world affairs, booking experts in relative fields.
