World class musicians at All Saint's Putney
A concert featuring world renowned trumpet player Jonathan Clarke and saxophonist Lara James will be held at All Saints’ Putney on Sunday 2 February, as part of the Haiyan Recital Series.
The free recital – which will start at 7.30pm and last for an hour – will include solo items, military fanfares and a brass quintet. It will raise money for the British Red Cross’s Typhoon Haiyan Appeal. The devastating Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines in November 2013. The death toll currently stands at more than 10,000.
The concert was the brainchild of Jonathan Clarke – a former principal trumpeter of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra – who is now based in London. He has previously worked with the Royal Philharmonic and BBC Concert Orchestras.
Lara James, who will also perform at the concert, is a saxophonist known for her work as a collaborative musician and soloist. She has performed as a concerto soloist and recitalist throughout the world, including in the UK on BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM, on Ireland’s RTE, in the USA on NPR and on ABC Classic FM Australia. Her debut album ‘Facades’ was Classic FM’s Presenter’s Choice in 2009.
The concert will include well-known concertos including the Telemann Concerto in D and the Marcello Oboe Conerto, arranged for a soprano saxophonist.
Further guest artists including trumpet virtuoso and local resident Paul Archibald, Euphonium Star John Storey, and Adrian Miotti – one of London’s busiest and most successful tuba players – will also be performing.
Jonathan Clarke, trumpeter and concert organiser, said:
“The terrible plight of the victims of Typhoon Haiyan is especially close to my heart, as my wife was born in the Philippines. I am proud to have launched the Haiyan Recital Series – which comprises four fund-raising concerts in London, Chesham, Cardiff and my hometown of Bridgend – in order to raise money for the Appeal.
He continued:
“I am so grateful to the talented musicians who have agreed to give up their time in order to support this event. The Putney concert promises to be an inclusive mix of music, from baroque to modern, performed by soloists and group ensembles. The concert is suitable for music lovers everywhere, so please do come along!”
Money will be raised through a mixture of donations and taking part in an auction and a raffle.
