Health Matters .......
You know it’s bad for you. You know it’s expensive. You know it harms your children. You know it could potentially kill you. You’ve probably watched someone die because of it…I’m talking about smoking.
There’s no point in telling you why to give up - you already know that smoking and passive smoking causes 9 out of 10 cases of lung cancer, that nearly half a million smokers end up in hospital every year, that smoking has more than 50 ways of making life a misery through illness, and more than 20 ways of killing you.
Maybe you’ve thought about giving up?
You are four times more likely to give up using Nicotine Replacement Therapy or Zyban and your free local stop smoking service. So what happens when you pick up the phone and call the Wandsworth NHS stop smoking service? You can talk to someone who will give you advice and information on stopping smoking. They will help you decide whether one-to-one or group sessions will help you best with your withdrawal symptoms. If you want one-to-one help you will be put in touch with a community advisor, this could be a local doctor, pharmacist or nurse. If you want to give up in a group, you will be booked onto the next available local session. At your first session you will set a date to quit, and if you need it, we will get your GP to prescribe you Nicotine Replacement Therapy or Zyban.
People of all age groups and from all walks of life, are giving up everyday. It takes one phone call to the Wandsworth NHS Stop Smoking Service on freephone 0800 389 7921. You can also find the Wandsworth NHS Stop Smoking Service at www.wandsworth.nhs.uk/stopsmoking
