In the ergo 'Stroke for Stroke' challenge
Stroke survivor Michael Taylor and his four sons are taking on a 12 hour team rowing challenge on Saturday 26 July to raise vital funds for the Stroke Association.
The team are facing the challenge together on ergometers along the River Thames at Putney. Michael (68), Jamie (33), Alex (30) Luke (25) and Will (22) Taylor will be joined by a number of rowing enthusiasts on the day, ranging from international to rank amateur oarsman and women.
In August 2012, Michael had a stroke and spent six weeks in hospital recovering. Alex, Michael’s son said: “Prior to my dad’s stroke, he had always maintained a high level of fitness. Whether it was climbing a mountain, skiing or riding a bike, he’s always loved to be active. After his stroke, it was no surprise to the family that dad wanted to go the extra mile and raise money for those less fortunate than him.
He decided on a rowing challenge. The Stroke Association does amazing work supporting people affected by stroke and the money we raise will make a real difference to stroke survivors and their families and that is spurring us to take on this challenge.”
Team Taylor is keen to raise £50k for the charity, and have been pushing the boat out to raise the vital funds for the Stroke Association.
Ruth Dunkin, Fundraising Manager at the Stroke Association in London, said:
“We’re so impressed with Team Taylor – their dedication and support has blown us away. There are around 13,500 people who have a stroke every year in London and over 128,000 people are living in London with the effects of stroke. We’re a charity that relies on people like the Taylor family to raise funds so we can be there for as many people as possible whose lives have been changed by stroke.”
