Illustrated Talk on the History of St Mary's Church
Alicia Robinson, formerly of the V&A, will discuss her research into the building
St. Mary's Church, Putney
An illustrated talk is to take place at St Mary’s Church about the history of the building by Putney Bridge.
It will be given on Monday 21 February, Alicia Robinson (Cropley) and is organised by the Putney Society.
St. Mary’s Church has a long and fascinating history from its foundation, through a Tudor addition, the Civil War ‘Putney debates', huge changes in the 1830s, an arson attack in 1973, to the resurrected church today.
Alicia worked with the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) for 36 years in various roles including as Director of Apsley House (the Duke of Wellington’s art collection in his London home), and later Senior Curator of French Sculpture 1600‐1914, and of Ironwork.
As a longstanding resident and parishioner of Putney, she undertook research on St Mary’s Church recently and she will discuss the church’s evolution, highlights and a few discoveries.
The meeting starts at 7.30pmwith wine and soft drinks available from 6.30pm and after the meeting.
