The Slingbacks continued their winning ways away at Anstey Park on Sunday. The 1sts, lead by captain Katharine Landells, faced an under strength Alton side who have struggled for numbers this season. They quickly got onto the score sheet but all credit to Alton who made it much harder than the score line suggests.

The Slingbacks made this win harder for themselves with a lack of control but some good running saw Wing Patricia Clyde run in four tries. Player of the Day went to lock Tamsin Ross-Browne who battled hard all afternoon, was key in the line-out and scored her first ever try in the 15 aside game.

Landells commented: “Alton refused to give up and at times we had to work very hard to capitalise on our opportunities. Against Blaydon next week, we will need to work harder, physically and mentally, to control the game and play our rugby. I am sure that we will rise to the challenge and raise our game and I am looking forward to leading out the squad next Sunday to defend our top of the table position”

Lock Anna Wood and flanker Charlotte Gilbert, stepping up to the 1s this week, were also singled out for their notable performances, interlinking well with Ross-Browne and the pack and putting in the hard yards for the 80 minutes.

With league results very close so far this season, the win saw Park top the table due to points difference, with a bonus point to come for scoring more than 5 tries. They welcome new members throughout the season and with the Slingbacks Toos any ability is catered for.
