Historic Boat Race Winners Join Sea Scouts' Fundraiser
Christmas tree sales continue on Putney Embankment

There were some special guests for a fundraiser for the local Sea Scouts this weekend.
The crews and families of the 4th Streatham Sea Scouts were joined outside the Wandsworth Youth River Club on Putney Embankment by the winners of the annual Doggett’s Coat & Badge wager.
Resplendent in their red outfits, they had taken part in the oldest and longest continual river race, which has been run by The Fishmongers' Company, and the Company of Watermen and Lightermen of the River Thames and the Worshipful Company of Fishmongers since 1715.
All the competitors are apprentices on the River Thames from the Watermen’s Company and competed over the 4 mile 5 furlong course. Any apprentice can enter in the first year after they pass their apprenticeship. The winner is presented with the coat and badge which they can wear to work and charge a higher rate for their skipper services. These days the winners do not usually wear the uniform on the river as it is rather cold and not practical.
Also at the event was Councillor Ethan Brooks who represents Thamesfield ward and Nicholas Austin a Freeman of the Company of Watermen and the manager of RiverHomes in Putney who sponsored the event this year.
A Christmas tree sale was held both on Saturday and Sunday with all profits going to the Sea Scouts. It continues this weekend Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 December between 10am-4pm ay the Wandsworth Youth River Club which is by Beverley Brook Bridge. The trees can be home delivered to you if you are not too far away.
