Roehampton Club will be part of the Open Garden Squares Weekend in June
Roehampton Club, a private Members’ Club in the heart of South West London, are opening up their gorgeous gardens for visitors to explore on Sunday 19th June for London Parks and Gardens Trust’s Open Garden Squares Weekend.
Usually hidden from public view, Roehampton Club are inviting Open Garden Squares Weekend ticket holders to explore the beautifully maintained sunken garden, traditional water features, herb garden and other corners.
The gardens were laid out at the time of the formation of the Club and, although many changes have been made within the estate, the gardens remain the heart of the facility. The original wooden clubhouse was replaced in 1969, but the gardens remain as they were laid out by the Miller family, who founded the sporting club in 1901.
There is an attractive vista from the back of the clubhouse, which leads through a sunken garden with ornamental pond to a yew-hedge walk and finishes at an attractive pavilion. The yew hedges are an original feature of the gardens, laid out by the Miller family in 1901 and are some of the most impressive yew clipped hedges in the area.
Beyond a wrought-iron gateway is a rockery and herbaceous walk with seating bays featuring fig, roses and wisteria climbers. A croquet lawn in this area is flanked with attractive shrub planting and trees of interest. Returning to the clubhouse, there is the original tea lawn and rhododendron walk which finishes the trail.
Your Open Garden Squares Weekend ticket grants you access to London's best secret gardens over two days, Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th June from 10am to 4pm.
