Roehampton Festival 3rd & 4th August

Roehampton ready to embrace festival fever

Community members are gearing up for the return of the popular festival, which is run by local charity Regenerate and has funding from the council, takes place on the weekend of August 3 and 4.

Its first day features a Kings and Queens event for a group of invited older residents and the start of a football tournament for 14 to 18-year-olds, while the Sunday will see a wider, community fair unfold on the Bull Green.

This will include live music, a city farm, a fun fair, circus performers and bouncy castles – along with BBQ food. The fair takes place from 12pm to 7.30 pm on Sunday, August 4.

There will be a ‘lifestyle lounge’ in which people can learn about healthy living initiatives – while also getting pampered at an on-site nail bar or having a go on a special smoothie bike.

The council’s public health department has also arranged for health trainers to be on hand, should visitors want tips on keeping in top shape and motivational advice from a qualified health worker – and there will be other support services on hand offering weight management tips, cancer advice and help quitting smoking.

Residents wanting to find out about education and training opportunities in the borough will be able to do so at a Learning Works area in the main marquee, as well as try a range of free, 10-minute taster sessions in subjects like DIY, personal fitness, budget planning and jewellery making. The council’s jobs advisers will also be present to assist any local residents who are looking for work.

In addition, an information stand will also be set up at which visitors can learn more about the council’s Alton area improvement project, and the masterplanning process.
