Student At Roehampton University Releases Single & EP

Rhiannon's new single "Wild Horses" will be available on iTunes

Always a musical child, Roehampton University student Rhiannon found her first creative outlet in her local Wiltshire amateur dramatics group at the age of 12. Flourishing there gave her the confidence to enter local and then national singing competitions, and after winning the national ‘Festival4stars’ for solo singing, 17-year-old Rhiannon beat hundreds of musicians of all ages to become Classic fm’s ‘Live and Uploaded Best New Talent’.

Rhiannon then moved to London to pursue a career in music, getting a job at the Royal Albert Hall and studying with Mary Hammond who is head of the musical theatre department at the Royal Academy of Music. She is currently in her second year studying at Nutrition and Health at Roehampton University, but her singing career was first publicaly noted when at she won Classic FM's singer of the year.

Now aged 23 years Rhiannon has worked with Warner Brothers record label and established herself as a classical-crossover figure in London. She told PutneySW15:
"I have held solo concerts at Cadagon Hall, Kings Place, St Johns Smith Square to name a few and I now tour Europe and the Middle East with classical girl group Passionata."

Rhiannon manages to juggle three part time jobs to pay the rent, studying for her degree and her musical career, including the "no's" along the way. She commented:
"I am in my second year and juggle uni life with solo music work and song writing, the girl group concerts, rehearsals, a job at the uni library, jobs at the royal albert hall, nutrition society president and flat rep back at uni. Plus popping down to Melksham when Ii can to visit my friends."

"This summer took me to the U.S.A New York where I had two concerts and a radio interview. I also spent a good 3 solid days in the recording studio in Long Island with an american soprano Kristyn Murphey who has launched me onto her label 'krisolyte records'. She showed me New York and we have worked solidly throughout 2012 to get this EP together. America was a fab experience, I have never travelled so far on my own before and I was given a VIP tour of ground zero and met some survivors which was an incredibly emotional and touching experience."

Naturally leaning towards the classical and theatre world Rhiannon possesses that seductive charm and elegance to her voice that enables her to cross beautifully across many genres. Writing her own music she has pulled influences from musical theatre, classical, jazz and pop. Her own material tend be derived from personal experiences and the artists she grew up listening too such as Fleetwood Mac and Kate Bush. Demonstrating her truly dulcet tones to their full advantage.

Her single 'Wild Horses' will be released on iTunes on November 6th and her EP will be available on on CD from November 20th. She told PutneySW15 that she chose this song because:
"It is a song that completely touches me, I grew up influenced by British rock alongside Sarah Brightman and phantom of the opera - these influences really shine through in my voice and i have worked hard at preserving the essence of theatre/pop in my voice alongside the classical training. I felt such a connection with this particular song it just had to be the single. I am so excited to share this EP and i hope everyone can enjoy the selection of music on it."
