Mayor of Wandsworth will attend the service in Putney
Men and women who have given their lives in the service of their country will be honoured across Wandsworth this Remembrance Sunday.
There will be three main Remembrance Day services in the borough on Sunday, November 11.
These will be at St Mary's Church, Putney Bridge, Holy Trinity Church, Ponsonby Road, Roehampton and also at St Mary's Church in Battersea Church Road.
The Putney and Battersea ceremonies will involve local dignitaries and ex-servicemen and women laying wreaths at their respective war memorials, which are situated outside the two churches.
In Putney a parade will leave the Royal British Legion, Upper Richmond Road at about 10.25am, will pass along The URR to Putney High Street where it will turn right and proceed to St Mary's Church near to the bridge. A wreath-laying ceremony will then take place by the Cross of Sacrifice, followed by the usual two minutes silence and a church service. The parade will then march back to the Royal British Legion. The Legion will be joined on the parade by a contingent from the Royal Marines Reserve, Royal Signals, army and possibly other cadet forces, scouts and cubs and will be led by a pipe band. The Mayor and Deputy Lieutenant will be in attendance and an additional wreath will be laid by a member of 2nd Royal Tank Regiment in recognition of their being awarded the Freedom of the Borough.
In Roehampton wreaths will be laid at the war memorial on Roehampton Heath, at the top of Medfield Street.
At 11am a two minute silence will be observed at all three ceremonies in memory of the fallen.
The Mayor of Wandsworth Cllr Adrian Knowles will attend the Putney service while Deputy Mayor Cllr Nicola Nardelli will attend Battersea's.
