PEAT results following 2010 assessment
One ‘excellent’ and five ‘goods’ formed NHS Wandsworth’s 2010 Patient Environment Action Team (PEAT) results, following an annual assessment carried out earlier this year by the National Patient Safety Agency. Established in 2000, PEAT inspections look at all NHS facilities with 10 or more inpatient beds.
Made up of NHS staff, directors, mangers and patient representatives, PEAT teams visit all relevant healthcare facilities in England, scoring them on three main areas; environment, food and privacy and dignity. Ratings ranging from excellent to unacceptable are then given for each category.
This year, Queen Mary’s Hospital Roehampton was awarded an excellent for its food and good for its environment and privacy, whilst Dawes House gained a ‘good’ in all three areas. On receiving the news Di Caulfield-Stoker, Chief Operating Officer of Community Services Wandsworth said: “For the second year running Queen Mary’s has obtained the highest possible score for the quality of its food. Staff have worked tirelessly during the last year to bring about vast improvements in patient areas at Dawes House, this has obviously paid off and we have seen its environment score move up from acceptable to good. This years’ results highlight what we are doing well and indicate where we can improve further and we will continue striving to make every patient’s time with us as comfortable as possible, which we hope will be recognised with even better results in the coming years.”
