Winners of Putney Society Front Garden Awards Declared
Over one hundred local gardeners entered the competition

The results of the Putney Society Front Garden Award scheme and the efforts of 129 local gardeners have been acknowledged.
The judges were impressed by their efforts in managing to meet their criteria despite a long period of drought followed by a torrential rain storm.
10 residents gained a Gold award, 32 a Silver award and 87 a Bronze award.
The criteria used by the judges were as follows:
• Visual appeal – a good selection of plants – a pleasing garden which leaves the onlooker with an overall visual impact.
• Adding to biodiversity – a good selection of pollinator plants – monocultures are not very good for pollinators
• Design: good use of available space and design coordination between plants and other elements.
• Sense of care: a well-maintained, healthy garden.
• Originality: Something that makes the garden unique, catches the eye and makes it linger. The feeling that you want to see more of this garden
A spokesperson for the Putney Society said, “A hint for those that did some planting but failed to win an award – plants in limited spaces need a lot of watering in dry spells - it was sad to see many desiccated specimens.
“Finally, many thanks to all our judges and those that assisted with our the stalls on the two days that we gave away plants.”
