Air Pollution in Putney

The Putney Society meeting on Thursday 14th April at 7.30 pm

Recently released figures show an estimated 4,267 premature deaths, in 2008, from long-term exposure to air pollution in London - translating statistically to 38 deaths in the five Putney and Roehampton wards, whilst pollution levels in Putney High Street are reported as among the worst of any shopping street in the capital.

Air pollution is caused principally by vehicle emissions and can be held responsible for worrying increases in heart and lung disease as well as the epidemic of childhood allergies and asthma problems.

The meeting will focus on the pollution issue and our speakers will be

Simon Birkett from the Clean Air in London campaign

&

Councillor Sarah McDermott , Wandsworth Council’s Cabinet Member for the Environment.

The meeting is open to all Society members and friends. Refreshments available at The Brewer Building, St Mary’s Church, Putney Bridge
