A brand new six-part online series from Putney Theatre Company
RECALLS: PTC’s Past Uncovered is a brand new, six-part online series from Putney Theatre Company.
In each episode, a different past director speaks with host, PTC member Craig Bates (who also edits and produces the series) to look back at one of their favourite past productions. Conceived in lockdown, and recorded via Zoom, RECALLS is a love letter to community theatre and an entertaining deep dive into the creativity and ingenuity of amateur dramatic societies. Produced with Putney Theatre Company artistic director Jeff Graves and member Ally Staddon.
The bite size episodes will explore how community theatre approaches adapting complex plays, “impossible” staging, special effects, live music, original writing and much more. Accompanied by production photography, videography and never–before-seen design sketches, PTC aims to share with audiences how much love, time and talent goes into making theatre that has been entertaining audiences for almost 60 years.
RECALLS reveals the highs, and lows, of theatrical productions - from losing cast members days before curtain up to tackling playing football on stage, from open air performances to making a new pantomime from scratch.
A new episode will stream every Sunday morning on Putney Arts Theatre’s Facebook page and YouTube channel from 20th September. The first part of this series focuses on Ladies’ Day by Amanda Whittington, with Angels in America by Tony Kushner, As You Like it by William Shakespeare, Picnic by William Inge, Cinderellaland pantomime by PTC writing team and The Wolves by Sarah DeLappe following after.
Although Putney Arts Theatre had to close its doors and its future has been left in jeopardy, PTC realised the best way to make new content was to utilise its old content and celebrate its members hard work at the same time.
Whether you’ve not seen the production, or never even seen a PTC show at all – RECALLS serves to entertain and inform, raise money for Putney Arts Theatre (having already raised over £11,000) and possibly find new audiences for when the stage can be lit up again.
