The programme of events for April at Putney Library has been announced.

A highlight will be an illustrated talk by local historian Phil Evison entitled The Great Houses of Putney which takes place on Wednesday 27 April from 6.15-7.30pm.

Putney was once a tranquil village, remote from the noise and pollution of the city, and wealthy people built grand mansions here. Come along and learn about some of the lost ‘great houses’, and the few that remain.

This is a repeat of the talk given in November 2021 that was so popular Mr Evison has agreed to give it again in case you missed it.

To book call 020 8780 3085 or email Charlene.coleman@gll.org.

Knit and Natter continues to provide an opportunity to share your knitting skills, learn new techniques or start a new hobby.

It takes place on Thursdays from 2-4pm. There is no need to book, just turn up.

A new book talk group is starting on Wednesday 13 April from 6.30-7.30pm and then takes place the second Wednesday of each month.

The group gives you a chance to meet up once a month and have a chat about whatever you’ve been reading - and recommend it (or not!) to others. It is free - just turn up.

From 28 March all the way through April there is an Exhibition of painting, printmaking and photography from Peter Solari entitled Landscape and Light.

On Monday 11 April at 5.30pm the Film Club will be showing De-Lovely a musical based on the life of Cole Porter. As he is about to die, Porter's life flashes before him in the form of a musical production staged by the archangel Gabriel in the theatre where the composer first performed on stage. The event is free and for more details contact Putney.library@gll.org, or just turn up.

The Friends of Putney Library aim to protect, enhance and promote the role of the library in the community. Since their launch in 2013, they have organised several talks each year by authors and other speakers on a wide range of subjects, both of local and wider interest. They also organise events for children in the children’s library. You can join the Friends’ mailing list by sending an email to friendsofputneylibrary@gmail.com

Like Reading Articles Like This? Help Us Produce More

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We've always done that and won't be changing, in fact we'd like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.

We are therefore asking our readers to consider offering financial support to these efforts. Any money given will help support community and public interest news and the expansion of our coverage in this area.

A suggested monthly payment is £8 but we would be grateful for any amount for instance if you think this site offers the equivalent value of a subscription to a daily printed newspaper you may wish to consider £20 per month. If neither of these amounts is suitable for you then contact info@neighbournet.com and we can set up an alternative. All payments are made through a secure web site.

One-off donations are also appreciated. Choose The Amount You Wish To Contribute.

If you do support us in this way we'd be interested to hear what kind of articles you would like to see more of on the site – send your suggestions to the editor.

For businesses we offer the chance to be a corporate sponsor of community content on the site. For £30 plus VAT per month you will be the designated sponsor of at least one article a month with your logo appearing if supplied. If there is a specific community group or initiative you'd like to support we can make sure your sponsorship is featured on related content for a one off payment of £50 plus VAT. All payments are made through a secure web site.
