A Midsummer Night's Dream - Outdoor Performances

The first outdoor performance by the Putney Theatre Company

This highly-anticipated production will be PTC's first ever summer open air production - after a six-performance run at the theatre, the production has re-worked as a promenade piece to be staged among the trees and ornate tombs of the Putney Old Burial Ground that adjoins the theatre. It is hoped that this will be the first production in a regular programme of open air Shakespeare and other plays in subsequent years.

PTC are also very proud to announce that the production has been chosen to be part of the RSC's Open Stages project, beginning a journey that could lead to it being performed at the RSC's new theatre in Stratford upon Avon next year. This unprecedented collaboration with eight regional and national theatres and organisations, representing amateur theatre from across the globe, proposing an awe-inspiring array of imaginative takes on Shakespeare.

The show itself will use a newly edited version of the script based on the original first folio and first quarto manuscripts. The actors will be moving between the trees and hollows in the Burial Ground, allowing the audience to move around and watch the different scenes as they unfold and take you into the world of the Dream.

Feel free to bring along picnics, snacks, blankets and coats (just in case). In the event of a very heavy amount of rain the show will be moved to Putney Arts Theatre which is just around the corner.
