Putney Landlady Was 2nd Fastest Woman In North Pole Marathon

Becky will be sharing her experiences at a talk later this month

The Landlady of The Bricklayer’s Arms will be giving a talk on her successful North Pole marathon run at the end of the month. The talk will take place in her award-winning pub (named third best pub in England by National Geographic) on Wednesday, 30 th May at 8pm.

On April 5th, Becky Newman, 44, ran 26.2 miles across one of the most remote and inhospitable environments on Earth - The Geographic North Pole. She came 10th place overall and was the second fastest woman in the race.

Becky took part in the challenge in memory of her sister, Helen, who died suddenly of a brain haemorrhage in 2005. Becky also raised over £8,000.00 for the brain injury charity, Headway South West’s monthly support group which aims to provide information, advice and support to people affected by brain injuries as well as support for their carers, family and friends.

Says Becky: “I am delighted to have raised so much money for such a worthwhile charity. I really want to thank all the people who kindly donated their money. Thank you so very, very much.”

Becky flew out to Spitsbergen in Norway on April 4 th before being flown out to an International North Pole camp called Barneo. Becky was then subjected to an experience like no other in her life. She found herself running in Arctic clothing in temperatures approaching -30C.

Becky continued: “I’ve run marathons before but nothing like this! It was a truly exhilarating and life-changing experience. I would willingly do it again!”

Becky decided to give a talk at The Bricklayer’s Arms after being asked by friends and customers about her experience. It will be a free event but anyone coming along to listen is kindly asked to please give a donation to Headways (charity boxes will be in the pub).

“It should be a fun evening and it would be brilliant if I could raise even more money,” says Becky.

The talk will start at 8pm and will last approximately one hour. To sponsor Becky Newman please visit:    www.charitygiving.co.uk/beckynewman
