The Bernadel Quartet with Rebecca Wise

The final Putney Knitting Concert Schubert - String Quintet in C major

The final Putney Knitting Concert takes place on 29th June with Schubert's String Quintet in C major to be performed at All Saint's Church, Putney Common.

You need to hear this. Either this piece is already on your Desert Island Discs list or it will be when you've heard it. This is quite simply one of the most beautiful pieces of chamber music ever written. Completed just 2 months before Schubert's death it waited over 20 years for its first performance and, like so many great pieces that we now take for granted, could so easily have disappeared from view forever. Hauntingly beautiful, it will help to soothe the shredded nerves if we are still clinging to ever more tenuous hopes of England success in the World Cup, or help to console us for another football disaster and an inevitably washed-out first week at Wimbledon.

The Bernadel Quartet, led by William Melvin, ended off the Knitting Concerts last year with a quite breathtaking performance of Bartok's Second Quartet. Hear them at All Saints before we lose them to the Wigmore Hall....

The Bernadel Quartet;

William Melvin (violin)

Cassi Hamilton (violin)

Richard Waters (viola)

Abi Hyde-Smith (cello)

with Rebecca Wise (cello)

As ever the concert is free with complimentary wine and soft drinks and you are invited to bring something (not too noisy!) to do whilst you listen if you want to.

The proceeds from the retiring collection will go to Trinity Hospice via Tobias Davey's fundraising campaign. Tobias has been raising money on behalf of his father Geoff, a frequent member of the audience and a much-loved figure in the musical life of All Saints, who was cared for by Trinity Hospice at various points this year and who sadly died this weekend.

Those of you who came to the May recital will be pleased to know that very nearly £1000 was raised towards Alex McCartney's fundraising campaign for the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital Appeal. This brings the total money donated to charities so far this year to £3300.

This is the final concert this season
