all proceeds going to the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability
Next month sees the return of the biennial Jazz On The River Festival. The main festival consists of a range of jazz performances from local and named artists at venues throughout Putney (including The Real Greek, The Fox and Walkabout) and includes performances by the Skamonics and the John Ongom Big Band at the well-regarded French Market in Church Square on Saturday 29th.
The festival will climax with a spectacular live evening Jazz Mass on Saturday evening at St Mary’s Church, featuring a very special performance of Will Todd’s “Mass In Blue” by The Vasari Singers, described by Gramophone magazine as “one of the finest small choral groups of our time”.
Stephen Wallace, Putney Town Centre Manager, said, “Jazz on the River proved a great success in 2005 and we look forward to repeating this next month. Featuring live jazz in pubs, bars and restaurants over three days the event promises to further strengthen Putney's reputation as a place to enjoy great live music and the riverside. Wandsworth Council and the Putney Partnership are very happy to work closely with the Royal Hospital for Neurodisability to stage this biennial event.”
The last Jazz On The River Festival, in 2005, raised well over £10,000 for the RHN. It is hoped that this year’s event will raise more than £35,000, which the hospital will use in its ongoing work - assessing and treating adults with traumatic brain injuries incurred through accidents or strokes, and caring for people with complex neurological conditions, like Huntington’s disease or Multiple Sclerosis.
