Come along, listen learn and hopefully volunteer!
This free informal evening will start with a cup of tea or coffee and a short sign supported film, that covers all aspects of the work of the charity, from puppy selection, training, through to the placement of a hearing dog with its profoundly deaf owner. Nearly nine million of the UK population experience some degree of hearing loss.
That's one person in every seven. Over 650,000 of these people could benefit from a hearing dog. We train dogs to respond to specific sounds which hearing people often take for granted, sound source. For sounds such as the smoke alarm and fire alarm, the dogs will lie down to indicate danger.
The evening will include a short talk about the urgent need to raise our level of fundraising in these difficult economic times. Our Charity receives no government funding and relies solely on the support of volunteers to help us raise funds. We would also like to develop a new volunteer branch in SW London which would help us achieve the ongoing success that is vital to our charity.
To assist us with our catering arrangements, I would be grateful if anyone interested could email me at sue.pellow@hearingdogs.org.uk
