Charity fund-raiser in iconic music venue the Half Moon Putney
GunrunnersUK is a Chelmsford, Essex based 6-piece band that can play genres across the spectrum from Hard Rock to Blues, from Prog Rock to Pop and beyond. The band call it their “Classic Rock Jukebox”, an eclectic and well thought out selection of true anthems all designed to transport the audience back to their younger, formative days, awakening memories of great bands and great songs which are imprinted on their musical souls. The band are heading to Putney on 23rd June to riase funds for Shooting Star Chase charity.
Founded by current rhythm guitarist Spencer Pratten, his aim was always to play great sets and to play them well. Musicians have come and gone, but the Gunrunner ethos has always stood firm. The early Blues based covers repertoire that leant heavily on BB King, Freddie King, Howlin’ Wolf and the like gradually morphed into a more rocky, gutsy base, which is where the band sit today.
The current 2019 line up is the bands strongest to date, consisting of tried and tested journeyman musicians who put in the hard yards to do these classic tunes justice. Appearances at legendary venues like The Marquee and The 100 Club for some of the Gunrunner musos during the 1980’s still live long in the memory, whilst rubbing shoulders on stage at music festivals with the likes of Uriah Heep, Focus and Carl Palmer are more recent events that have helped cement the bands reputation.
The chance to now play one of London’s truly legendary venues was too good to miss for Gunrunner, and it was this opportunity that led Spencer to seek a local and worthy charity to support. Shooting Star Chase was chosen, and the aim is to pack the venue with rock lovers for an unforgettable charity night where legendary tracks from Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Cream, Status Quo, The Who, Thin Lizzy, AC/DC, Van Halen, Guns n Roses, The Doors, and many more, will transport music lovers back to the golden era of rock music.
Shooting Star Chase is a leading children’s hospice charity caring for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families. They support families across Surrey and London, from diagnosis to end of life and throughout bereavement with a range of nursing, practical, emotional and medical care.
Spencer told this website: "It costs £10 million a year just to maintain their current level of care and only 10% of that income comes from government funding, so this amazing charity relies heavily on supporters’ generosity to keep the service running. I am hopeful that the local community will make this a night to remember".
Tickets are only £10 in advance from The Half Moon:

Sepencer can’t wait to show what the band can do to a London audience, whilst knowing the children’s charity will be the real winner as it so deserves to be.
