A Short Tour of Modern Polish Literature in Translation

An evening of readings/discussion about contemporary translated Polish literature. Hosted bythe Friends of Putney Library.



Met any Polish people lately? Yes! And can you name any Polish authors whose book(s) you’ve read? No? But interested in knowing more? If you’d like to find out about modern Polish literature that’s available in English translation, please come along to Putney Library where translator Antonia Lloyd-Jones will give you a brief introduction to some of Poland’s best living writers. There will be fiction, poetry, travel books, reportage and children’s books – something for everyone who loves reading. There will be some books for sale at this event.

Antonia Lloyd-Jones is a full-time translator of Polish literature. Her published translations include fiction, reportage, poetry, and books for children by several of Poland’s leading classic (Ryszard Kapuściński, Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz, Janusz Korczak, Stanisław Lem) and contemporary writers (Olga Tokarczuk, Paweł Huelle, Jacek Dehnel, Zygmunt Miłoszewski, Mariusz Szczygieł, Wojciech Tochman, Wojciech Jagielski, Tadeusz Dąbrowski, Aleksandra & Daniel Mizieliński). She mentors younger translators within the Emerging Translators Mentorship Programme run by the British Centre for Literary Translation, and initiated by the UK Translators Association, of which she is currently a committee member. She twice received the Found in Translation Award (2008, 2013).

The FOUND IN TRANSLATION AWARD is given annually to the translator of the best translation of Polish literature into English in the form of a book in the previous calendar year.
