Putney Cricket Club Does PUTNEY to PARIS Cycle for Charity

Raising money and awareness for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) and First Touch

Training trip lead to Brighton Pier

On Thursday 23rd March at 8.00am, 12 members of Putney Cricket Club will depart from the Clubhouse located on Putney Common, Lower Richmond Road, and head off towards Paris, arriving 3 days later on Saturday 25th. The aim is to raise money and awareness for 2 charities, Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) and First Touch.

CRY funds research into sudden cardiac death in the young and provides invaluable support to families affected by this tragic condition. Every week in the UK, at least 12 apparently fit and healthy young people die of undiagnosed heart conditions. We are riding to help CRY reduce this number.

First Touch supports the neonatal unit at St Georges Hospital in Tooting. The charity provides vital equipment and support so the hospital can help to ensure the welfare of new born babies and their families. We are riding to help First Touch continue their valuable work.

The itinerary for the cycle is as follows:
Day 1: Putney to Portsmouth – 128 km / 80 miles
(Overnight ferry Portsmouth to Le Havre – Ferry departs around 23:00)
Day 2: Le Havre to Evreux – 112 km / 70 miles
Day 3: Evreux to Paris – 104 km / 65 miles
(Total distance: 344 km / 215 miles)

If you would like to help us support the charities with a small donation you can do so online.

Further details of the route and the Putney Peloton can be found here.

Please note that the participants have funded all their own costs themselves, so all of the monies raised will be going directly to support the two charities.

And, as if the task wasn't challenging enough, the group are riding an assortment of cycles including Road, Mountain, Hybrid, Fixed Wheel, Single Speed and Brompton Bikes. Plus, two of the group are then going to be riding back from Paris to Putney!

So, if you're out and about on Putney Lower Common on Thursday morning please feel free wish us well, wave us goodbye and remind us that the pain we will go through is all for a good cause!!

Many thanks for your support.
