Tim
Foster raises the traditional ale garland
Gold medal
rower opens Young's new riverside venue
Olympic gold medal oarsman Tim Foster
has opened London's newest riverside venue for eating, drinking and meeting people.
The
Boathouse, in Brewhouse Lane, alongside Putney Wharf development, has glass frontage
providing views of Putney Bridge, the Thames and beyond plus chill out balconies
& terraces.
The pub is in the old Isherwood building, which at various
times housed an engineering works and a vinegar brewery before it fell into disrepair
around 30 years ago. The
building has been rebuilt and restored, and then fitted out in traditional style
by Young's, whose brewery is only a mile away in Wandsworth. Many of the building's
old features, including two gables with Normanesque windows, a domed tower, a
crane gantry and an old clock, have been preserved.
The
Boathouse was opened with the traditional raising of an ale garland by Tim Foster,
who partnered Steve Redgrave, Matthew Pinsent and James Cracknell to gold in the
coxless fours at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. Tim seen left with brewery chairman
John Young.
The pub is on three floors, facing a riverside piazza, and
serves Young's beers, a large and imaginative choice of quality wines and home-cooked
food throughout the day, every day.
The
food on the ground floor and mezzanine level offers a wide range of choices plus
on the top-floor there is a restaurant bar which offers an à la carte menu
with table service at lunchtime and in the evening.
The managers of the
Boathouse are Andrew and Elizabeth Ford, who have been with Young's for four years.
They head a team of dynamic young bar staff whose aim is to deliver an excellent
standard of customer service at Putney's newest venue.
The Boathouse is
at 32 Brewhouse Lane, Putney SW15 2JX. Telephone 020 8789 0476. Open: Monday to
Saturday 11am-11pm; Sunday 12noon-10.30pm. Food is served 12noon-10pm daily and
in the top-floor restaurant bar 12noon-3pm, 6pm-10pm.
