The annual Bluebell Walk takes place this Sunday (22 April 2007
Walkers are invited to enjoy the glorious surroundings of the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew - and help raise money for Cancer Research UK.
The three-mile sponsored event is a great opportunity for walkers of all ages to view the beautiful, historic gardens and landmarks at Kew.
The event, now in its ninth year, has raised more than £150,000 for Cancer Research UK. Last year the event raised a fantastic £35,000 and it is hoped that even more money will be raised in 2007.
Organiser Caroline Stokes, of Putney and Roehampton Friends of Cancer Research UK, said: “This is a great day out for all the family, particularly because of the fabulous surroundings at Kew. We are very grateful to Kew for once again generously supporting the walk and we hope as many people as possible will come and join us and raise money for such a fantastic cause”
Lisa Chambers, Community Fundraiser at Cancer Research UK, said “People participate in this wonderful event for a number of reasons – in support of or in memory of friends or loved-ones, or simply for a great day out. Cancer Research UK receives virtually no government funding so events like this are crucial if we are to raise money to fund our research into the causes, treatments and prevention of cancer.”
Walkers can start at any time between 10.30am and 1pm and participants can take as long as they like to complete the route.
Cafés on route will be open throughout the day serving a variety of food and drink.
Entry prices for the walk are those charged by Kew Gardens who generously donate 50 per cent of the cost to Cancer Research UK. Adults are £12.25 and concessions are £9.25. Friends of Kew and children aged 5-16 pay a nominal £2 to join the Walk.
