Beatles Interview Burrowed Away In Putney Garage

The nine-minute interview took place at Scottish Television on Thursday 30 April 1964.

Fourty four years after the recording the tapes were discovered in a Putney garage when the family were clearing out and they were nearly thrown out with teh clutter!

Howard Shannon the producer of the Radio 4 programm believes that the piece is one of the earliest surviving long-form British interview with the band -" a rare gem that portrays the group in their laid back, unguarded days - an attitude that more recent, recorded interviews with the band tend not to have captured."

It offers a revealing insight into Sir Paul McCartney and John Lennon's songwriting partnership;

"Sometimes we write them on old pianos or anything that's lying around, guitars and things. Normally we sit down and try and bash one out," explains McCartney. "Then again, there's no formula. He [Lennon] can come up with one completely finished, but we still say we both wrote it though.
