Gas Leak Causes Chaos On Upper Richmond Rd

Residents perplexed as road was closed for 5 months at the end of 2010!

Southern Gas are currently repairing a gas leak found between Putney Hill and Burston Rd resulting in this section of the road being closed to traffic in a westwardly direction.

A Southern Gas spokesman told Cllr Leslie McDonnell that they:
“have been carrying out emergency repairs to a 15 inch gas main since the afternoon of 18 January. They claim to have committed resources to 24/7 working until the fault is repaired. Once the main is repaired they state that there will be a short period where no contractors will be on site to allow the concrete to cure and to prepare for reinstatement.”

We have been advised that the gas leak is not dangerous and that Southern Gas are trying to finish the repairs as soon as possible to get the road back to normal but they could not supply a date for this.

The eastern section of Upper Richmond Road had major traffic disruptions whilst main replacement works took place during late summer and autumn 2010.
