With a sponsored walk and cheering around central London on Friday 19th November
The Roehampton Rascals are a nationally competitive squad for Roehampton University. In the last academic year we brought home 6 trophies from the BCA Midland Classic and University competition. We competed at Level 3 and also performed a dance routine. We plan to do even better this year as we have 2 squads - the 1st squad which contains 35 members and the 2nd tsquad which involves 20 members. We will hopefully be entering Level 2/3/4 at ICC Internationals and BCA once again.
We are all about spirit! Training is vital so we have two sessions weekly, both 2 hours in length which is a good team building experience and great fun too. Of course the hard-work and effort we put in is our main priority, but we also hold socials for the team. This gives us the opportunity to spend time with each other out of cheer making us not only a great team but a strong group of friends.
Previously for Children in Need we have done cake sales. Although we raised some money from this, it only involved our university and not the local community. This year we have decided to do a sponsored walk as people, not just the cheerleading squads but other stundents and members of the public, can get involved and we will also be raising awareness to those we see and speak to throughout the day.
Not only have we done fundraising for Children in Need but we also work with the community and hold community cheerleading sessions. We run these sessions at Roehampton Sport Centre on a Friday for young children who love to cheer, and this also keeps them active. We have previously worked at cheer camps and run after school clubs at local primary schools too.
We have a strong Cheerleading Committee;
Megan Villegas - Co-Captain
Naomi Turner - Co-Captain
Allana Rider - 1st squad Coach
Katy Smith - 2nd squad Coach
Sarah Viccars - Social Secretary
Ab Banjoko - Spcial Secretary
Hayley Ovens - Treasurer
As a group, we communicate and work as a team to ensure all our ideas and input are shared regularly. We cover all aspects of cheer whether this is; routine, community, socials, funding, competitions etc. to create the ultimate team/group of friends.
To sponsor the group - all contributions should be sent to the following address in an envelope clearly labelled; You can contact the Roehampton Rascals directly by email. |
