Putney MP Opens Groundbreaking Venture Between NHS & Private Practice


Putneymead Medical Centre is the culmination of a merger of three Putney practices


Justine Greening MP cut the ribbon to officialy open the newest medical practivce in Putney last Fiday night. This exciting new project will provide a variety of NHS and private medical services under one roof, enabling patients to receive treatment through an integrated approach.

During the opening Justine met with the owner along with residents and centre staff to discuss the new facilities and how they meet the needs of the local community.

Justine said, “It is a privilege to open this fantastic new facility which is right on the doorstep of many local residents. It took a huge amount of effort by the GP practices that have moved but these new premises will mean a real improvement for residents registered at the Putneymead Medical Centre. The late opening hours should also give people much needed flexibility to see their doctor after work.”

Located in central Putney, SW15, the newly refurbished premises, spread over four floors, has excellent facilities for disabled access and offers a full range of enhanced NHS General Practice services together with a pharmacy, MRI and DEXA Bone Density scanners, sports injury rehabilitation specialists, as well as a number of Private Consultant specialist clinics.

Putneymead Group Medical Practice has been formed from the merger of three long-established local GP surgeries to become one of the largest NHS GP Practices in London, with a patient list size of 25,400 patients and 22 Doctors. The accredited GP training practice, which is open 12 hrs a day Monday-Friday and on Saturday mornings, offers a variety of enhanced NHS services on-site including (counselling, travel vaccinations, blood tests, 24 hour blood pressure monitoring, ECG's, minor operations, physiotherapy, osteopathy and full contraception services).


The second floor has been leased to The Putney Clinic of Physical Therapies to provide Osteopathy, Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Rehabilitation. Staffed by experts in their fields, the services available are at the leading edge of sports medicine and will provide a full service under one roof for competitive and amateur athletes. A nalysis of running biomechanics and ergonomics for cycle position is available with the emphasis is on sports injury prevention. A full service (treatment, rehabilitation, biomechanics) will also become available for skiing and golf. There are also plans to link with Surrey University to provide Physiology testing.

Private yoga and pilates will also be offered in designated studios as well as massage, hypnotherapy, chiropody and podiatry. These private services will all be available as part of an integrated approach to healthcare under one roof.

Parkside Hospital will open ‘Parkside in Putney’, a dedicated suite of Private Consulting Rooms on the 4 th floor offering access to a number of Private Consultant Specialists including orthopaedic surgeons, gynaecologists, dermatologists, neurologists and paediatricians. They will also have an MRI and a Bone Density Scanner within the unit and patients not registered with the practice will also be able to use their services privately.

In addition, the building houses Payden’s pharmacy open to the public on the ground floor as well as a dedicated conferencing suite on the second floor available to hire for education events or meetings.

Existing and new patients are welcomed to the new premises.
