Young Film Academy launch new Putney venue for kids filmmaking courses
Budding young filmmakers in Putney (ages 6-19) have a great opportunity to take their first steps
to Hollywood this summer. Young Film Academy, the UK’s leading provider of filmmaking courses
for kids, are launching brand new filmmaking courses in a new course venue in Putney.
Based on the structure of YFA’s hugely successful BFI Film Academy, our new 10-day advanced
filmmaking course is designed for students looking to take their filmmaking skills to the next level,
meet like-minded other young filmmakers, and wish to build their CV and/or showreel. During the course, students will work with professional equipment to write, shoot and edit short films under the
guidance of our award-winning filmmakers. Students will benefit from masterclasses delivered by
guest speakers from within the film industry and also develop their practical filmmaking skills
(screenwriting, producing, photography, sound recording, editing).
The new Animation course gives young aspiring animators a chance to create their own ‘Lego Movie’ using professional techniques that students can continue to use at home or at school.
Students will work in teams to write, shoot and edit short animation films, using Lego to create sets
and animate their own characters and stories in professional lighting setups. Students will add
professional sound FX, voiceovers, and post-production assets - all in a race against the clock.
Young Film Academy courses give the BAFTA winners of the future a hands-on experience of running a film set. No experience is necessary, and participants have the chance to write, shoot,
act and post-produce their own short movies. Thereʼs even a premiere screening and awards
ceremony at a top West End venue, plus a DVD of their movie to keep forever.
Richard Curtis, who recently adapted the Oscar-nominated Warhorse, is the latest parent
looking to give his children the edge:
"My sons couldn't have had a happier time with Young Film Academy and now seem to know more
about filmmaking than I do. This is quite awkward."
Richard Curtis (Notting Hill, Love Actually, Bridget Jones's Diary)
Young Film Academy is the UKʼs leading provider of practical filmmaking programmes to 6-19 year
olds, helping over 7,500 young people complete their first digital films each year. Young Film
Academy provides workshops for BBC, Tate, the Barbican and over 100 schools and arts
organisations nationwide.
