Colman campaigns for a better District Line....
On 7 April Tony Colman pressed the managers of the District Line to address delays on the line between Wimbledon Park, Southfields and East Putney; and for the modernisation of Southfields station as soon as possible.
Tony Colman stated: “I am delighted to announce that District Line managers intend to address the problem in the engineering work taking place during the weekend of 21-22 May. I hope this will reduce delays and improve service in our area.”
The modernisation of Southfields station is set for June 2009 to January 2010. This will include the installation of step-free access and a face-lift. Tony Colman continues to press for this to be brought forward to 2007 as plans for the installation of a lift are well advanced.
Tony Colman says: “Good transport in Putney is vital to our quality of life. If we are awarded the 2012 Olympics, Southfields will become an important focus for people travelling to watch the Olympic tennis. This, together with its importance as the main station for those travelling to watch the tennis in Wimbledon fortnight means that it is vital improvements are made as soon as possible. I also continue to campaign for Crossrail 2, a proposed new London Underground route from East Putney through Clapham Junction, Victoria, and on to the future Olympic park in East London.”
