Dirty Rotten Foreshores

Fulham Wharf to get cleaned up .....

Environmental charity Thames21 and the Port of London Authority are joining forces to clean up one of the filthiest stretches of foreshore on the River Thames on Monday 20th March.

The site, located at Fulham Wharf near Putney Pier, is one of the worst that Thames21 have encountered in their 10 years of doing river clean ups on the Thames foreshore.

Thames21’s River Programmes Manager Chris Coode said: “Yuk! This site is full of dumped detritus like snow skis, rubbish bins, scaffolding, children’s scooters, old computer keyboards, cutlery and partially buried plastic bags in their horrible hundreds ….the list goes on.

“Positively, the high level of litter at Fulham Wharf is a much less common sight today because of Thames21’s work with communities and partners like the Port of London Authority to tackle London’s riverside grot-spots.”

Thames21 formed ten years ago in response to the lack of statutory duty on any organisation to clear litter from rivers and canals. It began working with communities and businesses to clean and green the River Thames and now works on a range of projects across London’s 400-mile network of rivers and canals.
