900 children should benefit directly from Sure Start Roehampton and organisers can now start to roll out SureStart services. SureStart works with parents-to-be, parents, and children to tackle disadvantage and facilitate maximum intellectual and physical development. It also works on the principle of encouraging parental involvement in local childcare decisions. Tony Colman, the Member of Parliament for the area said: "The aim of SureStart is to realise the Government's target of halving child poverty by 2010, and I want to see this happen in Roehampton. The partnership of parents and experts in Roehampton has worked really hard to ensure that the services provided are well tailored to local needs and the preferences of parents' and parents' to be. I commend the effort made by the coordinators and also the parents who have contributed to the setting up of the programme."
