St Christopher’s Fellowship is highlighting how it turns houses into homes for children and young people in care.

It has showcased its work in its Spring newsletter, Opening Doors which features a story about last summer’s camping trip, where young people stepped out of their comfort zones to try something new. For Leon, who had never camped before, it was more than just a trip. It was an unforgettable experience that opened his eyes to new possibilities.

He said, “This was my best day since I came to the UK. I’ve seen this in movies but not in real life.”

The charity, which has a history of supporting children and young people since 1870, provides children’s homes, supported housing, fostering and other specialist services and promotes lifelong learning and thriving for all those in their care.

St Christopher's approach aims to ensure that young people under their care can be safe, loved, and happy, and achieve their goals during and after their time with them. To achieve this, the charity says it learns and develops alongside young people, using emotional intelligence to create relationships and offering creative, practical activities.

St Christopher’s supports young people in their journey into adulthood, from life skills training to support in the world of work to creating a link to the home once they have left.

Experiences like these help young people build confidence, friendships, and lasting memories. The charity is asking you to consider donating £35 today to help it give more children and young people like Leon the chance to thrive.

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We've always done that and won't be changing, in fact we'd like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.

We are therefore asking our readers to consider offering financial support to these efforts. Any money given will help support community and public interest news and the expansion of our coverage in this area.

If neither of these amounts is suitable for you then contact info@neighbournet.com and we can set up an alternative. All payments are made through a secure web site.

One-off donations are also appreciated. Choose The Amount You Wish To Contribute.

If you do support us in this way we'd be interested to hear what kind of articles you would like to see more of on the site – send your suggestions to the editor.

For businesses we offer the chance to be a corporate sponsor of community content on the site.
